Sonhando Estwick, NYC Principal, on 2019 Reflections

Reflections For 2019

One of the amusing comments that people often say to me is, “I would never want your job!” After the tenth or twentieth time, I started to wonder if I should be questioning my personal decision-making ability. In all seriousness though, as all-encompassing as this job may be, I struggle to imagine a better one.

Every day I get to come to work with some of the smartest, kindest, and most passionate people that I have ever had the good luck to meet. On a daily basis I get to see new and creative approaches to learning. And at the same time, I get to be part of what is arguably the most transformative stage in human development. Having the opportunity to look through the eyes of 12-year-old child may be baffling at times but it is a beautiful and humbling experience that has helped me reevaluate many of my own assumptions about the world.

Wishing you all a wonderful new year! I look forward to our work together in 2019.
