Trump Tower Fire Leaves 3 Injured, FDNY Says

Smoke was seen billowing from the roof of the Fifth Avenue high-rise Monday morning.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Three people were injured after a fire broke out on the roof of Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters arrived at the Fifth Avenue high-rise shortly before 7 a.m. Monday for reports of a fire on the building's top floor, fire officials said. When firefighters arrived at the building they discovered that the fire was coming from an HVAC unit on the roof of the 68-story tower, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire was put under control shortly before 8:15 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

Of the three people injured, one was a firefighter and the other two were civilian. The civilians were treated at the scene of the fire for minor injuries and refused further medical aid an FDNY spokesman said. The firefighter suffered minor injuries, the spokesman said.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump no longer live in Trump Tower. The first family moved to Washington D.C. to live in the White House after Barron Trump finished school in New York City.

Trump's adult son Eric thanked the FDNY on social media Monday morning.

"There was a small electrical fire in a cooling tower on the roof of Trump Tower. The New York Fire Department was here within minutes and did an incredible job," Eric Trump tweeted. "The men and women of the [FDNY] are true heroes and deserve our most sincere thanks and praise!"
