The car crash occurred on West 37th Street between Ninth and 10th avenues shortly after 12:30 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

Jonny Giordani, who owns Jonny's Panini Coffee Bar close to the crash site, said he saw a black SUV hit a car on W. 37th St., swerve across the road and strike a van. The SUV driver lost control and jumped the curb, crashing into pedestrians, he said.

Giordani and other cafe employees ran to help a woman lying on the street. "We ran over to her, she was bleeding a lot from the head and was not moving her arm or leg," he said. She appeared conscious as ambulance workers arrived, he said.
