Watch: City Council Speaker Among Protesters Arrested Outside Trump Tower

Immigrants rights activists and three Latino Congressmen protested Trump's efforts to eliminate DACA.

Update: Ten protesters — including local and national government officials — were arrested Tuesday afternoon while blocking a street near Trump Tower during a protest against the president's efforts to eliminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Among those cuffed were Congressmen Adriano Espaillat of New York, Raul Grijalva of Arizona and Luis Gutierrez of Illinois as well as City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

Arrests were made after protesters sat in the intersection of Fifth Avenue and East 57th Street in order to block traffic.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Immigrants rights activists and three prominent Latino members of Congress will rally in front of Trump Tower Tuesday afternoon to protest Donald Trump's effort to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Congressmen Adriano Espaillat of New York, Raul Grijalva of Arizona and Luis Gutierrez of Illinois will call on Trump to work with Congress and pass a clean DREAM Act. The politicians will be joined by advocacy groups such as Churches United for Fair Housing (CUFFH), Make the Road New York, New York Communities for Change, Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) and Make the Road New Jersey.

"As Trump visits New York to deliver an address at the United Nations, the group will demand that he works with Congress to pass a clean DREAM Act that includes a path to citizenship for immigrant youth, without additional funding for the insecurity that Trump’s immigration agencies are creating at the border," rally organizers said in a press release.
