Woman Found Dead In Midtown Hotel, Man Arrested For Murder

A 26-year-old woman's death Wednesday inside a Midtown hotel, initially believed to be natural, has now been ruled a homicide, police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A man has been accused of murder after his girlfriend was found dead inside a Midtown hotel on Wednesday, police said.

Just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, police arrived at the Citizen Times Square Hotel, on West 50th Street near Broadway, after getting a 911 call reporting that a woman had fallen unconscious.

They found the victim, a 26-year-old woman, lying face-up on the floor and "suffering an apparent medical episode," police said. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

She was identified as Kayla Estevez, a Harlem resident.

After an autopsy was conducted, however, the Medical Examiner discovered she had sustained blunt force trauma across her body and throat, and ruled her death a homicide.

Wednesday evening, police arrested 28-year-old Ernest Wright, who is homeless, and was believed to be Estevez's boyfriend, police said.

He faces charges including murder and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
