1 Dead, 3 Hurt in Rocky Point Crash

BREAKING: Police have released details on a fatal crash that occurred Thursday evening.

ROCKY POINT, NY - A woman was killed and three others were hurt in a two-car crash in Rocky Point Thursday afternoon.

According to police, 47-year-old Rachel Stalter was driving her 2014 Toyota Highlander west on Route 25A when her vehicle collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu that was turning to go northbound onto Hallock Landing Road at about 4:15 p.m.

The passenger in the Chevrolet, 65-year-old Carol Sardegna, of Rocky Point, was transported to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Chevrolet, 61-year-old Colleen Gorman, of Rocky Point, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Stalter, of Port Jefferson Station, and her 12-year-old daughter were transported to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson to ber treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. No criminal charges have been filed. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.
