CORRECTION: Area Beaches Not Tainted
The county has clarified that some of the beaches listed as closed are shut because they are either not open yet or not open to swimmers.

Due to elevated bacteria levels after rainfall, area beaches have been ordered closed in Miller Place, Sound Beach and East Shoreham
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services Beach Monitoring Program is prohibiting bathers from entering the water at Miller Beach Surf Club, Sound Beach POA East, Shoreham Shore Club and Shoreham Beach.

According to the county, beaches are closed when water quality is poor and/or other conditions pose a risk to public health.
The beaches will remain closed until two tidal cycles pass after the last rainfall.
