Autism Awareness

April is Autism Awareness month and I always take time to reflect on how Autism has effected my life, but not this year.

We all have heard about the challenges of Autism, the days and nights spent pouring over medical journals and every book every written in an attempt to make their child's life better.  The time spent with specialists, occupational, physical and speech therapists. The food aversion therapy and applied behavioral analysis.  The challenges are never ending and even frustrating at times.

This year I am focusing on the gifts my child brings to me.  My child is funny, sweet, smart and kind.  When I look at the world through his eyes it is a better place.  I will never worry that he will fall to peer pressure his sense of right and wrong is a part of him.  There is no place for cruelty or sarcasm.

When we think of all the things we want our children to be, it's easy to take this time and be thankful for what I have.

This year I will "Light it up Blue" for different reasons, as a cause for celebration.
