Jury Renders One Billion Dollar Verdict In Biotech "Roundup Ready" Technology War

The Monsanto Co. sued rival DuPont for an alleged patent infringement of their Roundup Ready herbicide resistant technology for soybeans and corn.  In short, the technology has to do with genetically modified seeds to produce super resistant crops.  Genetic modification is the direct manipulation of an organisms genome, by introducing foreign DNA or synthetic genes into an organism.  The use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's), is touted by biotech companies to be a technological salvation.  However, there is a large and growing world wide movement that maintains in essence, that this technology will result in the demise of human health and cause an ecological apocalypse.
