The Usual School Budget Hysteria and the Threats That Come With It

Apparently it's time once again to play off the emotions of the parents in the community regarding upcoming school budgets.

Last week in Miller Place it was the threat of laying off 22.5 teachers and some sports programs. All Middle School sports are on the butcher block as well as the Business education dept.

How dare you continue to use scare tactics against concerned parents? I get the fact that we have economic issues. Our residents put us in this "hole" by excepting "crazy" budgets when they thought there would always be gold at the end of the rainbow. It's time for all parties involved (including Teachers and Administrators) to make concessions and save these progams for the kids.

For right now "the party" is over. It may come back. I don't begrudge the contracts that have been signed in the past. Our residents were living in the moment instead of planning for the future. Reality bites. It is now time for "all" involved in the school district to make right by our children. It must be nice to sit back and threaten programs to scare people. What if the residents were able to threaten back that we would shut down the entire school district if there weren't concessions made from all involved?

What would the Teachers and Administrators be willing to give back then to save employment for all? Where would you go to make Long Island MP School System money?
