Building-Level Administrative Appointments For Rocky Point Schools
School board makes appointments at its Thursday meeting.

During its July 9 meeting, the Rocky Point School District Board of Education named veteran educators Susann Crossan, Joseph Tapler and Dr. Courtney Herbert as the new high school principal, high school assistant principal and Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School assistant principal, respectively. All three will assume their new roles immediately.
Ms. Crossan has served as an assistant principal at Rocky Point High School for more than 12 years. In addition to her traditional administrative duties, she has been a member of the high school’s Shared Decision Making Committee, aided in the district’s implementation of Project Save legislation and facilitated many components of the district’s substance awareness, prevention and intervention action plan. Ms. Crossan also helped to develop the ninth-grade parent orientation program and create a teacher handbook and new teacher orientation program.
Mr. Tapler will fill the high school assistant principal role previously held by Ms. Crossan. He has worked in the district since 2004, serving as a middle school assistant principal before holding his current role as assistant principal at Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School. During his tenure, Mr. Tapler has helped to design and implement the district’s Response to Intervention program, instituted a school-to-work prevocational program for self-contained special needs students and worked to improve parent and community involvement at the building level.
