UPDATE: Landscaper Struck by Drugged Driver Dies, Police Say
A car collided with a ride-on lawnmower in Ridge Tuesday morning.
UPDATE Thursday 6:30 p.m.: Aceituno-Perez has died from his injuries. Hassett is being held in jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. She is due back in court on Sept. 19.
RIDGE, NY – A 24-year-old woman driving while impaired by drugs crashed her car into a ride-on lawnmower, critically injuring a 52-year-old landscaper, in Ridge Tuesday morning, Suffolk Police said.
According to police, Brianna Hassett, of Wading River, was driving a 2005 Cadillac east on Route 25, west of Pleasant View Road, when she struck the landscaper who was cutting a lawn at the corner of Route 25 and Pleasant View Road at about 11:50 a.m.

The landscaper, Anibal Aceituno-Perez, of Flanders, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he is in critical condition, police said.

Hassett was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. She is being held at the Fourth Precinct overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
