Girls Power Tech Day 2019 at MPHS

Miller Place SD Hosts Women Empowerment Summit

Miller Place, N.Y. (April 2019)—On May 2, 2019, Miller Place School District will host hundreds of female students for Girls Power Tech Day 2019, a global women empowerment summit that aims to inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM through hands-on exposure to the latest technology and engagement with successful women industry professionals.

“We are thrilled to host Girls Power Tech Day to provide encouragement, role models and provide hands-on experiences and opportunities to meet remarkable women mentors in the field,” said Dr. Marianne Cartisano, superintendent of Miller Place School District. “We hope the combined power of our female students and role models will empower girls to further develop their identities in STEM and pioneer their way in primarily male dominant fields.”

During the event, hundreds of female students from Eastern Suffolk BOCES districts will have the opportunity to meet business leaders in tech and other STEM-related industries, including: start-up entrepreneurs, Fortune 100 leaders, athletes, healthcare directors, network and systems technicians and more. Students will hear presentations by tech-minded female mentors and learn about the paths these successful industry leaders have taken to achieve their goals. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions to help them better understand how they might be able to break into the male-dominated tech industry as they plan out their futures.

“Our District is proud to be able to provide enrichment opportunities in the STEM field for all of our students,” said Susan Craddock, assistant superintendent of Miller Place School District. “Power Tech Day is an opportunity to help empower females to follow their dreams and pursue professional goals that they may have otherwise thought were unattainable.”
