Growing Number Of Rocky Point Students Earn National Recognition

70 Rocky Point High School students have earned the honor of being named an Advanced Placement Scholar.

MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT, NY - From the Rocky Point Union Free School District via Syntax: In recognition of their outstanding performance within the Advanced Placement program and related examinations, 70 Rocky Point High School students have earned the honor of being named an Advanced Placement Scholar. This total – the most recent data available – includes current students and members of the Class of 2017.

These awards are bestowed upon students in a number of categories, each differing based on the number of exams taken and the students scores on those exams.

Thirty-seven students were named AP Scholar for receiving scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

Fifteen were named AP Scholars with Honor for receiving an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Nineteen students were named AP Scholars with Distinction for receiving an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Six students were named National AP Scholars, an honor granted to students in the United States who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Class of 2017 graduate Maggie Dowd earned an AP International Diploma, as she received scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP Exams in three or more subject areas.
