Heritage Paint Offers Unique Painting Experience

Store focuses on all aspects of color and interior design, from refinishing a garage sale find to redecorating your home.

has been in Rocky Point since 2006, moving from its original location in Wading River where it did business for over ten years.

"I got into the business because I was a painter and I enjoyed dealing with people," owner John Romano said. "I wanted to expand on the painting business, be more involved with design. Along with top quality paint, we have wall paper and window treatments."

The store focuses on all aspects of color and interior design. They sell hard window treatments like blinds and soft treatments involving fabrics and drapes.

"I shop here for my business and my home," said Anthony Schembri, who has a local renovating business. "I come here because it's convenient, friendly, the prices are good."

Romano encourages the careers of many talented local artists and designers and gives them a forum for their work. He also partners with the Suffolk Community College Design program by providing internships to qualified students.

"We have some of the best local interior designers meet with customers for consultations in the store," he said. "We display samples of their work and their portfolios, we give out their business cards."

Among some local designers who collaborate with Heritage are TN Interiors , Diane Dracker of North Manor Interiors, The Paintgirl Studio specializing in decorative painting, murals and pet portraits, and The Painted Canvas, that offers instruction in the art of decorative finishes.

Rachel Moskowitz-Stengel did an internship at Heritage thirteen years ago while in design school. Just days away from giving birth to her first child, Rachel said, " I am a designer every one can afford. I'd rather work within the budget of 15 customers than do two high end clients."

The store is family run and neighborhood friendly. People come in with pictures on their phones and do deck and siding consultations.

"We advise people on how to paint the Saturday find at the local garage sale," Romano said.

On any given day the whole family is in the store. On this day the older girls Christina and Mary Rose along with their mom Josephine were helping out while the younger Katie was proudly displaying two artful masterpieces she created for her dad.

Every year Romano donates the paint used in set designs for the Theater Club's stage productions in Rocky Point Schools where the two older girls attend classes.
