Legislator Hahn to Hold Boater Safety Course in April

Legislator Hahn will hold a free 8 hour boater safety course for residents. The training will be broken into 2, 4-hour classes in April.

In time for the upcoming boating season, Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn has announced that she will be sponsoring a free boater safety course for area residents. The eight hour training will be broken into two, four hour segments held on April 14 and April 15 from 6-10PM at the Setauket Fire Department’s Nicolls Road Sub-station Number 3.

Under recently enacted New York State law, all individuals born on or after 5/1/96 are now required to successfully complete an approved course in boater education in order to operate a motorboat. While the course itself is free, there is a $10 fee required by the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for the boating safety certificate issued upon completion of this training. Similar programs can cost participants as much as $65.

Advanced registration is required for this course and attendees must be present for both sessions in order to receive credit. Space is limited, so please call Legislator Hahn’s office at (631) 854-1650 to secure your attendance.
