'Long-Standing, Blighted' Rocky Point Home Demolished By Brookhaven Town: Officials

ROCKY POINT, NY — A long-standing, blighted home in Rocky Point that Brookhaven officials say negatively impacted the surrounding community was demolished last month.

The property at 11 Laurel Road was demolished on June 15, after being purchased by the town, with the
acquisition part of the town’s effort to address drainage concerns in the area and alleviate stormwater runoff that has affected nearby residents, officials said.

Supervisor Dan Panico said the town "is being proactive in identifying and acquiring properties where we can address longstanding challenges before they become larger problems."

"The purchase of this property will help us manage stormwater runoff in the area and reduce future flooding concerns," he added. "As storms become more frequent and
intense, it is important that we continue investing in solutions that protect our communities."

The town’s purchase reflects its ongoing commitment to identifying problem areas and implementing practical solutions that enhance public safety, improve neighborhoods, and address infrastructure concerns before they become larger issues, according to officials.

Councilwoman Jane Bonner said the demolition is an important step toward improving quality-of-life for the residents of this neighborhood."

"By removing a blighted property and putting the land to better use, the town is taking meaningful action to address stormwater issues and protect the surrounding community," she added.
