UPDATE: Police ID Man Killed in Crash Between Scooter, Pickup Truck

UPDATE 4 p.m. Wednesday: Police have identified the man killed as Nicholas Kennedy, 25, of King Road in Rocky Point.

EAST SHOREHAM, NY – A man riding a scooter was killed in a crash with a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon in East Shoreham, police said.

According to police, 45-year-old Kenneth Staufer was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram west on North Country Road at 1:53 p.m. when a scooter heading east crossed over the double yellow lines near Valentine Road and struck Staufer’s pickup truck.

The driver of the scooter, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Staufer, of Shoreham, was not injured and remained at the scene.

Both the Dodge Ram and the scooter were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.
