Platinum Salon Takes New Name to New Location

With her aunt retiring from the family business, Bobbie White-Nickol brought their salon from an old location on 25A to a new location in the Miller Place Square on Echo Ave; and with it brought a new name and new design.

, formerly, moved to their new location at 62 Echo Ave at the start of April, and White-Nickol couldn't be more pleased with the transition.

"We’re so happy," she said. "In our move we were able to design it the way we wanted it to be designed. This place needed to be gutted from head to toe so everything is really my design, the only thing that came with us is the cabinetry and actual equipment."

White-Nickol said they've been able to increase business by 10 percent already, and basically all of their old clientele has followed them to this new location, which she says allows them to keep an intimate setting.

"In the old location it was bigger," she said. "Here I wanted it to be our clientele, who are more than welcome to bring in new people but not have it be a turn and burn...really have a relationship with our clients and be small, quaint and cozy.

"I have clients that just come in and hang out with us even if they aren’t getting serviced. That’s really what I was looking for and also the flexibility where I felt we didn’t need to be open 24/7 because I do work another job and will be growing a family."

The family-owned business has been open for 45 years, but White-Nickol felt a long-term name change was in order with the move.

"I think of platinum as the best of the best," she said. "It’s modern but I can still see it being modern and not going out of style, which was something important to me. If I’m going to keep the family business going until I retired, I wanted to keep going with the same name and not keep on changing it."
