Man Robs Suffolk Bank, Threatens To Use Gun: Police

The robber was handed the money after making the threat and then ran off from the bank, police say.

ISLANDIA, NY — An Islandia bank was robbed on Wednesday morning, Suffolk police said.

A man entered Chase Bank, at 1455 Veterans Memorial Highway, around 10:55 a.m., police said. He handed a teller a note demanding cash, threatening the use of a gun, police said. The teller gave the man cash from the drawer, police said. The robber ran away from the bank, police said.

Police described the man as black, approximately 6 feet tall, heavyset, and that he was wearing a dark blue sweatshirt.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this robbery to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
