Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. The female Northwell Health employee who was shot and killed at 1999 Marcus Ave. in New Hyde Park on Thursday has been identified as Amelia Laguerre of Queens, according to Nassau County Police. Laguerre was reportedly shot several times and several Northwell employees tried to save her. As the investigation continues, police ask anyone with more information to call 1-800-244-TIPS.   2. The East Meadow man who stabbed his wife and baby in their home on March 23 has been arraigned on two counts of second-degree attempted murder, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office. Christopher Alvarado, 37, is accused of stabbing his 38-year-old wife while she was holding their 18-month-old child in their home on Cooper Drive. The child was treated and released, while the wife sustained serious injuries but is listed in stable condition. (News12 Long Island)
  3. On April 4, outgoing Mineola mayor Scott Strauss served his last day as Paul Pereira steps in to lead our village. Improving our infrastructure has been the focus of the local government for the past decade, according to Pereira. Now, he said he would like to "invest in our parks, in our fields, for our young families and for all residents, really. I'd like to eventually invest in upgrading our pool and I would like to invest in keeping our downtown clean." (Mineola American)
