Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- Two Nassau County King Kullen locations are closing next month: in Franklin Square at 206 New Hyde Park Road and in Glen Cove at 77 Forest Ave. The King Kullen location at 2305 Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park will remain open. A spokesman for the grocery chain said that no employees from the closing locations would be laid off. Mineola-based UFCW Local 342 said they are making sure that members of their union employed at those stores are reassigned. (Newsday)
- A 33-year-old Queens man, Bryan Castano, was sentenced in Mineola to 30 years in prison for helping to burglarize multiple North Shore homes and steal more than $1 million in cash, jewelry and designer handbags. Castano and his co-defendants stole from homes in gated communities with only one entrance in Old Westbury, Manhasset, Jericho and Woodbury, according to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. - Rosalia Baiamonte was installed as the new 120th president of the Nassau Bar Association in Mineola on June 7 for a one-year term. Baiamonte, a partner in the matrimonial law firm Gassman Baiamonte Gruner in Garden City, said she plans to introduce new diversity and inclusion efforts, including a pre-law society for college students and a scholarship.
