Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. Three people died in a car accident on the Northern State Parkway early Sunday morning when the vehicle swerved off the road, smashed into several trees and burst into flames. According to state police, the vehicle was traveling eastbound around 5 a.m. when the accident happened near Exit 30 (I.U. 2. Leonard Finz, a World War II veteran and Manhasset resident who founded the Mineola law firm Finz & Finz PC, was officially inducted into the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame on Saturday. The 97-year-old former State Supreme Court justice was honored at a ceremony at Gracewood Mansion in Manhasset attended by Finz's family and politicians, as Francine Luisi and the Corpus Christi Choir of Mineola sang the national anthem. (The New York State Senate)
  3. While a police officer was inside Target in Westbury on Sunday to make a report of an earlier shoplifting incident, a Brooklyn man stole merchandise from the store and left.
