(Patch.com)

Happy Wednesday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in town today.

First, today's weather:

Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 43, low: 37.

One of the easiest ways to connect with local customers and stay top-of-mind in town is to sponsor the Mineola Daily. Click here to learn more.

Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. A home health aide has been arraigned on manslaughter and other charges for allegedly causing the death of an elderly Garden City man she was caring for. According to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly, 62-year-old Gail Godwin of Bay Shore hit 83-year-old John Busch over the head in his home, causing him to bleed extensively, and that she did not call the police for help until he was dead. Godwin, who is facing up to 15 years in prison, pleaded not guilty, and her bail was set at $150,000 cash or $200,000 bond. (Garden City Patch)
  2. Hildebrandt's luncheonette on Hillside Avenue in Williston Park has been serving the community for nearly a century, but its future is now in jeopardy because its new landlord wants to raise the rent, which the owners cannot afford. In an Instagram post, Hildebrandt's asked all former or current Williston Park residents to contact Town Hall and demand that Hildebrandt's be named a historic site. (New Hyde Park Patch)
  3. Donald Robert "Don" Fonseca, a Christian missionary and former resident of Mineola, has passed away. Fonseca still holds the Mineola High School 100-yard dash record. For 22 years, he taught and coached at The Stony Brook School, and for 21 years he was one of the chaplains for the Yankees, the Mets and the Jets. (williamsonherald.com)
