Bearing Carlino’s Name

There's more than pizza at the Italian restaurant in Mineola.

We had all things Carlino at . We couldn’t get co-owner Wali to recommend a particular dish so we took up his suggestion to try dishes that bore the Carlino name.

The Dish(es):

  1. Appetizer Carlino
  2. Rigatoni Carlino
  3. Vitello Carlino

What’s In It:

  1. Carlino appetizer: baby arugula and provolone wrapped in proscuitto with sweet balsamic glaze.
  2. Rigatoni Carlino: rigatoni with chicken, shrimp, broccoli and sun dried tomatoes in garlic and olive oil.
  3. Vitello Carlino: veal sautéed with spinach and nuts (walnuts, almonds and pignoli) and topped with gorgonzola in a white wine sauce.

How’s It Taste: Each dish was well flavored. The somewhat bitter arugula, sharp provolone and mellow proscuitto evoked all the great flavors of Italy. The pasta dish was hearty and the veal was tender. Portions were very generous.

Sides: Sauteed spinach with garlic and oil. We topped off the meal with tiramisu made by Janine Giannuzzi of Janine’s Goodies, the baker and hostess for the restaurant.
