Bites Nearby: Afghan Grill Kabob House

Land-locked Afghanistan is at the crossroads of many cultures. The cuisine is a tasteful blend of the food of the regions that surround it.

Spices such as saffron, coriander, cardamom and black pepper are used liberally, the cuisine is neither too spicy nor too hot – it is just right!

 – Stuffed appetizers (all $5.95) are popular. Stuffed grape leaves, sambosas (fried turnovers stuffed with ground meat, vegetables and seasonings) and a dish called manto – steamed dumplings stuffed with ground meat and onions and topped with seasoned yogurt and tomato stuff – is a house specialty.

On the table were three homemade sauces: cilantro garlic vinegar, yogurt and hot sauce with red chilies and garlic. You are encouraged to add these to any dishes.
