Bites Nearby: Brasserie 214

Dutch and European heritage on display at the Inn at New Hyde Park.

CEO Frank Marino and Executive Chef Armand Vanderstigchel have joined to create a continental experience at Brasserie 214, located at the corner of the.

Brasserie 214 – The cuisine at Brasserie 214 features dishes indigenous to northern and middle regions of Belgium, France, Tuscany, Germany, Holland and Scandinavia. A dish that pays homage to Chef Vanderstigchel’s Dutch heritage is bitterballen – croquettes filled with ground veal and béchamel served with a Dijon dipping sauce.

Another appetizer is Polish pierogies, pan-fried cheese dumplings served with sour cream and sautéed onions. Authentic mussel pots are imported from Brussels for the mussels; the fries are served in a cone of paper. The bistro salad is a combination of mesclun greens, gorgonzola, candied walnuts and Anjou pears in a Vidalia onion vinaigrette.

The restaurant offers bone-in Tuscan rib eye and Bavarian sauerbraten. Sauerbraten is their number one seller, paying homage to the Brasserie’s former life as German restaurant.

An unusual dessert is deep fried cheesecake, a creamy and crunchy ending to the meal.
