Bites Nearby: Table 9 in East Hills

American, Italian and Asian come together at Table 9.

Drawing from a variety of traditions to create his menus, Chef Franco Pollini serves up food in a simple yet comfortable dining room in East Hills.

Table 9 – The meal opens with bread, olive oil, butter and chopped chicken liver, an unusual amenity, giving a hint of the variety to follow.

Thai Prince Edward Island mussels, a blend of coconut, curry powder, basil and fish stock are offered as appetizers. The tender mussels were were served with plenty of aromatic sauce for dipping the bread.

The Table 9 meatball, while only one, is nearly an entree by itself, a combination of beef, pork, veal, and basil topped with an intense tomato sauce and a dollop of ricotta.

The marinated skirt steak was served with peanut soy drizzle and smoked tomato relish on a bed of mashed potatoes ($28) and sesame yellow fin tuna went Asian with ginger soy glaze and stir fried vegetables ($28).

The crème brulee is served in the classic style — very creamy with a crisp caramelized sugar topping. All desserts are $7.

Upstairs are private rooms for parties up to 110 for a sit down dinner.
