Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County Executive who takes office on Jan. 1, declared that he will not enforce New York State's new mask mandate. Blakeman said that Nassau County is not in crisis like other parts of the state, noting that we have a high vaccination rate and more health care facilities than upstate. Blakeman follows executives in other New York counties of Dutchess, Putnam and Rockland who said they will not follow the mandate. (CBS New York)
  2. A 20-year-old male Adelphi University student was caught recording a female student in a bathroom on campus and arrested last week, according to Nassau County police. Fahad Khan reportedly followed the woman into the Earle Hall bathroom at 3:20 p.m. on Dec. 5 and then later fled. An investigation by Garden City police found that he had recorded her. Khan is charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance and fourth-degree stalking. (Garden City Patch)
  3. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone age 16 and older should get a COVID-19 booster shot to bolster immunity against the omicron variant and other variants, if it has been more than six months since receiving the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines or more than two months since receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Read here to find out where to get a booster shot in Mineola and surrounding areas. (Mineola Patch)
