Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. Part of a wave of copycat threats to schools on Long Island, a 15-year-old boy posted on social media that he wished to commit a violent act against teachers and students of Turtle Hook Middle School in Uniondale. He was arrested by Nassau County police. The teen was charged with making a terroristic threat and is due to appear in Family Court on June 15. (Patch)
  2. After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, Mineola's Portuguese-American festival will be back this weekend from Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12 at Wilson Park (211 Westbury Ave.). The festival, which has been a Mineola tradition for about 40 years, will offer plenty of authentic Portuguese food from local restaurants as well as rides, games and entertainment. (The Island 360)
  3. The weekend festivities in Mineola culminate with Portuguese pride on full display at the annual New York State Portugal Day Parade on Sunday, June 12, which ends the carnival. The parade will start at 11 a.m. at Sayville Road and Jackson Avenue, march down Jericho Turnpike to Roslyn Road and end at the festival grounds at Wilson Park. (NYCarnivals.com)
