Firefighters battled a large blaze that burnt down two neighboring Hicksville homes on Alpine Lane Thursday afternoon.
Fire officials responded to the fire at 3:17 p.m. and were able to extinguish the flames in about an hour and a half. Two homes and a shed received heavy damage and two additional homes received minor damage, officials say.

The winds contributed to the fire spreading to multiple homes. Officials said the smoke from the blaze was visible for miles.
One woman was assisted out of the house by firefighters. She reportedly lived in an apartment in one of the homes and did not know there was a fire. One person sustained minor burns but refused medical attention at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
The Hicksville Fire Department responded to the scene with mutual aid from several other fire departments, including Hicksville, Bethpage, Plainview, Jericho, Syosset, Levittown, East Meadow and North Bellmore.
