Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- Police have arrested an 18-year-old man from the Bronx for allegedly burglarizing seven Mineola businesses and two in Carle Place in less than four hours in the early morning on Jan. 29. Richard Morgridge is believed to have robbed AAC Convenience, Churrasqueira Bairrada, Cornerstone Pub, Mineola Diner and Rex Burger, all on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola; Executive Cleaners and Brasa Rodizio, both on Herricks Road in Mineola; and Carman Drugs and Low Cost Manufacturing in Carle Place. Morgridge has been arrested 15 times in New York City from 2019 to 2022, according to News 12. (News12 Long Island)
- St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Rushmore Avenue in Carle Place will be holding its last mass this Sunday, as longtime parishioners mourn the closing of the 96-year-old institution by the Episcopalian Diocese of Long Island. Members say St. Mary's is an important part of the community with many events held there — and the church even received a $1 million endowment to keep it open — but the Diocese asserts that the number of active parishioners had still fallen too low. (NBC New York)
- Old man winter returns to Long Island for the first full weekend of spring, so you may need to put those yard activities on hold. An approaching polar vortex will make temperatures drop significantly, according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms producing small hail are possible on Saturday after 2 p.m. (Levittown Patch)

He was on regular motorcycle patrol when he was broadsided by a driver who ran a stop sign. He underwent a number of surgeries and spent more than two months in the hospital recovering from his injuries, which included broken ribs and a collapsed lung. P.O. Day has been an inspiration to everyone here at the #NCPD and we honored him with an official walkout to thank him for his service. Please join us in wishing P.O. Day a very happy and healthy retirement!" (Facebook)
