Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. The NYC MTA unveiled a new congestion pricing plan on Thursday that would make drivers entering Manhattan south of 60th Street pay an extra $9 - 23. From his office in Mineola, Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads called the plan "simply another tax on hard-working residents of suburbia," but the MTA insists it will cut back on traffic and pollution. (CBS New York)
  2. Newsday rounded up its top three burger restaurants to try on Long Island, and The Rex Burger & Lobster on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola was number one. The Rex's signature juicy Angus burger costs only $10.95, and if you go for the whole nine yards with a heap of lobster claw meat on top, that's an extra $12.95. (Newsday via Subscription)
  3. If you are using the LIRR this weekend, there are a number of service changes affecting the Mineola station. All eastbound Oyster Bay line trains will leave from Track 3 at Mineola from now on due to track reconfiguration for the new third rail. Also, If you are on an eastbound Port Jefferson train and wish to exit at Mineola, make sure you are in the first eight cars. (Patch)

  • Nassau County Police Department: "August is National #TrafficAwarenessMonth. All ATVs, dirt bikes, and off-highway vehicles operating on Nassau County roadways must obey traffic laws. You must wear a helmet." (Nassau County Police Department via Facebook)
  • Island Harvest: "Fresh veggies bring lots of color, nutrition and flavor to the plate. And through partnerships with community farms, farmers and food banks who work together to bring delicious produce fresh from the farm to a neighbor's table. For more information on our Healthy Harvest Farm, visit https://bit.ly/3BnD5b8." (Island Harvest via Facebook)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, Mineola East: "Tip: This can be a useful starting point, before you talk to an agent about real estate. Using a proprietary algorithm, you can see how many people are looking for homes like yours. If you are thinking of selling your home, this is the best way to get a feel for the market." (Nextdoor)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, East Williston: "Can we be more like this? I'm tired of expensive car owners not caring at all about breaking the law." (Nextdoor)
