Cops: State Trooper Injured in Northern State Crash

The crash occurred Saturday morning at the Glen Cove Road exit, police said.

A state trooper investigating an accident Saturday on the Northern State Parkway near Glen Cove Road was injured when another car lost control and crashed into the trooper’s car, authorities said.

State police said the trooper, whose name was not released, was investigating a single-car accident on the right shoulder of westbound side of the Northern State Parkway at 7 a.m. That’s when a 2006 Honda Civic lost control in the left lane and then spun across the road, striking the trooper’s car on the driver’s side rear door, and rear.

The driver of the Honda, Christopher Contaldi, entered the trooper’s car to try to help him, but wound up with minor cuts, for which he was treated at Winthrop, police said.

The trooper had to be extricated from the car and was then brought to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Two exit lanes for Glen Cove Road were closed for approximately two-and-a-half hours, police said.
