Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- Most people may be walking around stores in Mineola and the surrounding area mask-less, but COVID-19 is on the rise in Nassau County, as the positivity rate on Long Island surpassed 10 percent this week. Six nearby counties in New York also joined Nassau in the high-risk transmission category this week, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Queens, New York (Manhattan), Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), Richmond (Staten Island) and Westchester. - Margaret Ballantyne-Mannion was re-elected president of the Mineola Board of Education and Patrick Talty, who has served on the board since 2017, was re-elected vice president. Board members were sworn in this week at a reorganization meeting, including Cheryl Lampasona who is starting a three-year term as a trustee. (The Island 360)
