Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- One of the most prominent pharmacies in our area with two Mineola locations, CVS Health, announced it will close 900 stores over the next 3 years. The Woonsocket, Rhode Island-based company did not indicate which stores would be closing. As part of its new strategy, CVS said it would be converting more of their remaining pharmacies into "health hubs," where consumers can access diagnostic tests, hearing exams and mental health services. - UBS Arena in Elmont opens Saturday night, as the New York Islanders will host the Calgary Flames in their new home. The Empire State Building and the Nassau County Dome at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Garden City will be lit up in Islanders colors on Saturday to mark the opening. The new arena will hold up to 17,250 people for games and up to 19,000 for concerts. (The Island Now)
- An 85-year-old man drove his car into a fence at the Oyster Bay Marina and then into Oyster Bay Harbor where he became trapped. First responders rescued him from the water and took him to a local hospital, where he then died. Police are investigating. (abc7NY)
