Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. An LIRR train struck and killed a person near the Hicksville railroad station Wednesday night, according to the MTA. Police are still investigating the incident, which happened at 8:05 p.m. and shut down service between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma for two hours. The victim's identity has not yet been released.   2. COVID-19 levels are on the rise in two Nassau County water treatment plants, prompting concerns of another wave of the virus in the near future. The CDC has also reported increased levels of the coronavirus in sewage systems across the United States. Experts say that wastewater data can't predict specifically how many people will contract the virus, but that it can serve as an early warning sign of increasing virus spread. (abc7NY)
  3. Susan Ryan Hall, a dynamic, dedicated nurse and longtime resident of Santa Cruz, California, passed away on March 10 at age 69. Ryan graduated with honors from Mineola High School and earned her nursing degree from SUNY Farmingdale in 1975. In her 33-year career as a registered nurse, she was respected by her colleagues for her leadership ability, expertise and extreme caring for her patients. (Legacy.com)
