CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — Edward Mangano, the disgraced former Nassau County executive who was convicted of federal bribery, fraud and extortion charges, has been barred from practicing law in New York, according to a report.

Mangano, and his wife, Linda, were convicted at a March retrial and face up to two decades in prison when they're sentenced Dec. 18. Edward Mangano accepted bribes, rosecutors said, including about $450,000 from a former restaurateur in exchange for helping the restaurateur obtain $20 million in loan promises from the Town of Oyster Bay.

On Tuesday, Newsday reported the federal felony conviction meant Mangano was automatically barred from practicing law under state law. Disbarred attorneys must wait at least seven years before they can apply again for a law license, the newspaper reported.
