Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. A three-alarm fire on Saturday destroyed a Roslyn Heights house and killed at least one of the family's pet dogs, while the person who was home at the time was able to escape safely. The Roslyn Fire Department and approximately 17 other fire departments, including the Mineola Volunteer Fire Department, battled the fire at 183 Jefferson Ave. for about 90 minutes. No other injuries were reported. (News12)
  2. New data from the CDC shows that people who received booster shots are more likely to contract COVID-19 than vaccinated people who did not receive a booster. Medical experts say that there can be many reasons for this and warn people not to avoid getting a booster. Dr. Steven Carsons, director of the Vaccine Center at NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island in Mineola, said that boosted individuals may have a false sense of security and be taking more risks in their activities and behavior. (Newsday)
  3. An employee has been arrested for illegally selling THC gummies to two 16-year-old girls at Carmen Exotics Smoke Shop in Westbury. Ahmed Al Maghrebi Maher, 31, of New York City is charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance. (Patch)
