Dome-Lighting Planned In Mineola For Suicide Prevention Awareness

MINEOLA, NY — A dome-lighting is planned in Mineola on Tuesday evening as part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

Laura Curran, the Nassau County executive, will hold the event at 6:30 p.m. on the front steps of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building. The building is located at 1550 Franklin Ave.

Each year, more than 41,000 people take their own lives, officials said in a news release. Tuesday marks World Suicide Prevention Day and the event is meant to raise awareness about suicide and suicide prevention.

At the event, Curran and experts will talk about suicide, share the latest statistics on the issue and spread the word about helpful resources available to those in need or who have been affected by suicide.
