Driver Flees Scene After Fatally Striking 80-Year-Old Woman

Nassau Police are searching for the driver who fled Tuesday night.

HEMPSTEAD, NY – An 80-year-old woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Nassau County Tuesday night. It happened at 8:53 p.m. in Hempstead.

Nassau Police say the woman was crossing Washington Street at Nichols Court when she was struck by a car. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m.

The vehicle that left the scene was found by the Hempstead Police Department a short time later parked on a street in Hempstead. The car was impounded for a forensic investigation. No arrests have been made.

The identity of the woman who was killed is being withheld pending family notification, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
