Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. Two Long Island men have been indicted in Mineola for their roles in an October 2021 murder in Baldwin. Darin Semple, 20, of Freeport, and Devin Obleanis, 21, of Central Islip allegedly arranged to meet Rafael Delossantos, 23, to buy marijuana, but they stole the drugs and shot him two times before fleeing. If convicted of second-degree murder, the defendants face a life-long prison sentence. (Patch)
  2. Two Nassau County fire officers visited an injured firefighter in Ireland: Patrick Berry of Athlone, who nearly died while battling a blaze in his country last fall. Martin Tolan, fire chief of the Floral Park Centre Fire Company, and Kevin Mulrooney, ex-captain of the East Williston Fire Department and president of the Nassau County Firefighters Emerald Society, heard about Berry's accident and made collections on his behalf at last month's Mineola St. Patrick's Day Parade and at a meeting of Nassau County first battalion chiefs. Berry was "absolutely blown away" by their caring and generosity. (Meath Chronicle)
  3. Two spots on the Board of Education for the East Williston School District are available and open to be voted on, as the terms of David Keefe and Tasneem Meghji are ending on June 30, and they are not seeking re-election. Voting will take place on May 17 at The Wheatley School in Old Westbury from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (The Island 360)
