Cyber Bullies and Sexting: Nassau Bar Association To Help Parents Protect Their Kids At Free Seminar

Today's technologically-advanced school yard bullies use the tools of the 21st century, such as laptops, cell phones and smart phones, to target and harass their victims. To help parents protect their youngsters from abusive relations and to deter these "cyber bullies," the Nassau County Bar Association is presenting a free public education seminar.

Legal experts and social workers will discuss the nature and dangers of cyber bullying and sexting and the current approaches to dealing with this growing problem. Among the topics to be discussed include:

  • The potential dangers of posting pictures, videos, and personal information online: sexual predators, pornographers, identity thieves and cyber bullies
  • How kids can take advantage of the digital world without falling victim to the risks
  • New laws and the need for new legislation to address them
  • Educating children, parents and educators how they can help
  • Cyber bullying and sexting in abusive relationships
  • Civil liberties and the schools and law enforcement agencies

Top law enforcement officials are participating in this important discussion, including Nassau County Assistant District Attorney Ann Donnelly, Nassau County Police Officer John Dockswell, Brian Herrington, Assistant Director for Intergovernmental Affairs, NYS Office of the Attorney General; criminal attorney Joshua S. Ketover, Ketover & Associates, Garden City; Mindy Perlmutter, LCSW-R, Director of Education, Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence; and Udi Ofer, Advocacy Director, New York Civil Liberties Union. The seminar will be moderated by Lois Schwaeber, Director of Legal Services for the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
