The Dish: Fig Bread
What’s Inside: Cardinalli invented this bread around 30 years ago and likes to make it August through February, when the figs are in season and for holidays. He combines dried figs, walnuts, hazelnuts, and black and white raisins and adds the mixture to a bread dough. Just before baking, he flattens the dough, puts in a layer of fig jam and rolls it up again.

How’s It Taste: Cardinali doesn’t stint on ingredients. This rich cake-like bread is very moist and filled with fruit and jam.
Fig bread is generally available on the weekends. It sells for $5.99 a loaf.
