Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- Nassau County police found a 7-year-old girl shot in her left arm in Hempstead on Saturday while responding to a 911 call on Evans Avenue at 2:51 p.m. The girl was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. The police are investigating, and they ask anyone with information about this incident to call 911 or Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. (Garden City Patch)
- The first group of graduating students from NYU Long Island School of Medicine in Mineola, the unique accelerated, tuition-free program that started three years ago, found out where their residencies will be at their recent "Match Day." Forty percent of them were placed in NYU Langone locations, and 10 percent matched with other institutions in New York. Vice Dean Dr. Gladys M. Ayala told the students, "You are not only our learners in this environment, but you are our partners in establishing this new medical school, and it was because of your continued feedback that we have worked towards excellence." - Many area residents are still wary of working on-site in the city, but there are plenty of local job opportunities in the Mineola area — whether you are looking for full-time, part-time or contract work. The Long Island Conservatory of Music in Albertson is seeking an administrator and/or administrative assistant to join their team, while Santander bank in Garden City has an opening for a dealer relationship manager.
