Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- A man and a woman were shot at while leaving Nordstrom at the Roosevelt Field mall in East Garden City Wednesday night after getting into an argument with two men going into the store, according to Nassau County police. One of the men, who were both reportedly wearing face masks and all-black clothes, fired three shots at the couple but did not strike them. The men then fled in separate black four-door sedans. Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to call 911 or Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. (Garden City Patch)
- A New Hyde Park woman has been charged with stealing $750,000 from a 91-year-old client, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office. Elizabeth Reilly, 48, worked for a Floral Park lawyer who had an agreement to handle the elderly woman's finances. Reilly was reportedly given access to the victim's bank accounts and wrote more than 250 checks to herself or to cash totaling $675,000, and also used the woman's credit cards for personal purchases. - Bridget Cunningham, a junior at Mineola High School, has won a NYS PTA Award of Merit for her photograph titled, "The Medicine of Music." Cunningham's entry was chosen from 481 of the best statewide to be considered by the NYS PTA (New York State Parent Teacher Association) judges. The Albany-based organization coordinates children's programs across New York state. (Mineola Patch)
