  1. A Hempstead gang member has been convicted of assault and criminal possession of a weapon for shooting and injuring a man two years ago. Trevor Ford, a 30-year-old member of the Bloods gang, faces up to 22 years in jail. On May 15, 2020, Ford got into an argument with a man on the corner of Bedell Street and Terrace Avenue in Hempstead and shot him in the leg. The victim's leg was fractured, and he required emergency surgery. (Garden City Patch)

The annual Hoops for Hope event on March 9 at Garden City High School drew an enthusiastic crowd and raised money for the NYU Langone Cancer Center for Kids in Mineola, as well as the I'm Not Done Yet Foundation, created for Garden City High School graduate Bobby Menges, who lost his life too soon to cancer.   3. Jacqueline Angela Fortunato passed away at age 97 in Lewiston, Maine. Fortunato grew up in Mineola and graduated from Mineola High School in 1942, where she was a member of the drama club and basketball team.
