The Dish: Meatloaf sandwich

What’s Inside: The meatloaf is all beef and combined with sautéed onions, ketchup and seasonings before baking. It is served on toasted Italian bread with melted cheddar and more sautéed onions with a brown gravy dip.

How’s It Taste: This is a very satisfying and filling sandwich. The meatloaf is well flavored (co-owner Michael Alpert wouldn’t reveal their “secret” ingredients). The mild cheddar cheese blends well with the other elements and doesn’t overpower the dish and the onions add another level of flavor.

Sides: as a special for $8.50, the sandwich comes with soup, fruit salad or Jell-O. The diner’s hearty steak fries ($3.95) were a perfect adjunct to the meal. They were crisp on the outside and creamy inside.
