MINEOLA, NY — Nassau County police have arrested a man they say carjacked a woman from her Cadillac in Mineola last week just after he was released from police headquarters after an arraignment on other charges.

Detectives say 33-year-old Patrick Blaszkiewicz, who has no known address, approached a 62-year-old woman, who was sitting in her 2019 Cadillac SUV in front of 250 Old Country Road, and demanded she get out out of the vehicle on the evening of Dec. 9. When the woman left her vehicle, police said, Blaszkiewicz, who was clad in a hospital gown and blue scrub-style pants at the time, jumped in and sped away on Old Country Road. Detectives initially determined that the woman’s description of the robber matched that of Blaszkiewicz who had just been released from police headquarters just around the corner, police said.

Blaszkiewicz was later seen by Garden City Police driving the woman’s Cadillac and officers tried to get him to stop, but he fled and was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle, according to police.
