Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- The three women who lost their lives in a DWI crash on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park Saturday night have been identified: Marlene Lu, 66, and Ho Hua, 68, of Woodside, Queens, and Tu Nguyen, 41, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. They were leaving a Sweet 16 party at The Inn at New Hyde Park and were all related to the guest of honor: Lu was her grandmother, Hua her great aunt and Nguyen was her aunt. The driver and two other passengers were taken to local hospitals and are in stable condition. (Patch)
- The suspected drunk driver in the Jericho Turnpike crash, 22-year-old Dante Lennon of Freeport, was arraigned in a local hospital on Monday afternoon on three counts of vehicular manslaughter, vehicular assault, and driving while intoxicated. Nassau County police reported that he was speeding in a 2012 Mercedes-Benz and "T-boned" or slammed directly head-on into the side of the other vehicle. A preliminary breathalyzer test showed Lennon had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.088 percent. (Fox5 New York)
- The Proud Boys, deemed an extremist group by the FBI, marched through Rockville Centre Saturday afternoon in its second appearance in the town since March. The marchers carried American and Proud Boys flags, and most kept their faces covered. State Senator Anna Kaplan (D-North Hills) called their presence an effort to "intimidate our community and spread their vile, hateful agenda." (Patch)
